 - Located about two kms from the marketplace, is the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, established after Mount Everest was captured in 1954 by the Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime minister of India. The institute has an fascinating Everest Museum and offers some mountaineering and adventure courses. Situated on Jawahar Parvat, the institute is famed for its exceptional collection of mountaineering equipment and findings.

GHOOM MONASTERY
 - Ghoom is six kms away from the main town. The hillock is dominated by the celebrated Yiga Choeling Monastery and a 4.5-metre high image of the Maitreya Buddha. Ghoom, at an altitude of 2,407 metres, offers a spectacular view of the Valley.

TIGER HILL
 - A strategic point to view the spectacular sunrise is Tiger Hill which lies 2,590 metres above sea level. It offers a outstanding view of the rising sun dispersed over the snow-capped Mt. Kanchenjunga and other the adjoining peaks.

BHUTIA BUSTI
 - Amidst the backdrop of the Kanchenjunga, near Chowrasta on C.R. Das Road, Butia Busti is a colourful monastery. Originally a subdivision of the Nygmapa sect’s Phodang Monastery (Sikkim), it was brought to Darjeeling in 1879 and was situated on the Observatory Hill. An old library of Buddhist texts is there upstairs.

DHIRDHAM TEMPLE
 - The Dhirdham Temple, nearby the railway station, is accessible either on foot or by a jeep. The temple resembles the famous Pashupatinath Temple of Kathmandu in its architecture.

TEA GARDENS
 - While in Darjeeling visiting the tea gardens that produce the Darjeeling tea known for its unmatched flavour is a good idea. In antiquity, Darjeeling tea was a standard for all other brands of tea. Even today, its referred as “the champagne of teas”.
